Build your personal resiliency

Want to develop some personal resiliency? Start with saying nice things to yourself.

An old Japanese proverb says, don’t say unkind things about yourself, for your inner warrior will hear you. Make no mistake. You are a warrior, so talk nice to yourself. Your inner warrior, in turn, will protect you.

Avoid self-criticism. Replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations. What you say is up to you. Just make it positive.

While you’re chatting it up with yourself, change the narrative in your head. The past is a place for reference, not for residence. Recognize the times you were successful and build on that. Concentrate on matters at hand, and the future will take care of itself.

Lastly, become a lifelong learner. You’ve devoted years to your craft. But competency gives way to complacency. Continue to learn new things in and outside of your expertise.
